Charity Water’s September Goal

This is an excerpt from an email i received from Scott Harrison, the founder of the charity donthateonhaiti.org benefits. This is their September goals to help the people of africa.

——-A few minutes ago, we launched our 4th annual September campaign at http://www.charitywater.org/september. This year, we’ve got a huge goal: bring clean water to the entire Bayaka people group of Central African Republic. I was just with these amazing people last month and they are truly a forgotten people in a forgotten country. The ultimate underdogs.

The Bayaka are some of the last hunter-gatherers in the world, and about 20,000 live in the Central African Republic. They are skilled hunters, and know the ways of the forest, but in recent years the logging industry has destroyed their ancient way of living along with the forest canopy. They’ve been forced into villages where they’re treated poorly. Partly because they’re short (about 4 feet tall), and partly because their expertise in the forest has no value in the villages. They live on the fringes now.

The Bayaka have an incredible story, but almost no access to clean water.

And so today begins our campaign to give every single one of them access to clean water. While we’re at it, we’ll keep going and reach 70,000 of their neighbors. It’ll take us $1.7 million and 1,700 September birthdays to get there. I absolutely need your support to make this happen.

As of Pennsylvania..

…. Well my friends, it looks like we are going to not only MEET our goal of raising enough money to build 2 clean water wells, but we are gonna make enough to put 3 in!!!!! We just deposited $11,000 in the Haiti fund yesterday which puts us around $13,000 overall!!!! Yesterday was great, Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio personally donated $300 to the cause and I cant thank him enough for his generousity. So sweet!!!After today I’m hoping we get another $1200 or so, then I’ll just donate the rest to make it an even 15k. I’m so happy we got this campaign started and hope you all keep spreading the good word about the cause.

Hot damn!!!

Well, I had NO expectations yesterday when walking around for 15 minutes trying to find the obscure place our merch booth was. Finally, I saw a dark shed that housed the booths of AAR, Motion City Soundtrack, Hey Monday, and We The Kings. I mention all these bands because they all donated money yesterday to Haiti!!! So with a doubtful mind, I started to yell out facts on my bullhorn about how many people are displaced in Haiti, and what the kids can do to help change that. Suddenly this dark hall that only looked good for growing fungus and mold now was getting flooded with eager hearts full of compassion!!! We destroyed every other city as far as cash goes!! We made well over $1500, so I’m kindof freaking out!!! I’m so proud o Indianapolis!!! You guys were by far the sweetest bunch of hearts I’ve met thus far on the campaign trail. I sure hope Philly can come close to your awesomeness!!! Anyway, off to spread the word!!! Thank you all so much for your dedication to this worth cause.

Well, it’s been madness the last 3 days or so for the charity. I’ve figured out how to get the most out of the kids comming up to the merchant booth at warped tour. Direct donations. The past two shows we made almost 2 thousand dollars!! So far that put out total income around 5 grand!!! That’s already one clean water well for the people of Haiti!!! My goal is now to get 10 thosand more dollars and have enough for 3 clean water wells. I’ve now started selling my kisses for 40 bucks and it’s proven to help the donation process as well. Yesterday Nick and I got paid 80 bucks just to cuddle up and give each other a peck on the lips. Needless to say, we obliged the offer and helped make it another thousand dollar day for Haiti!! Also, we sold two side stage passes for a hundred bucks each!! People have really been an inspiration to this whole campaign. Everyone I meet seems really concerned about the issues that face Haiti and about just HOW LONG it’s goin to be before the recovery process has even made, forgive the pun, a drop of water in the bucket. See you out there you bad asses!!!
