Charity Water’s September Goal
This is an excerpt from an email i received from Scott Harrison, the founder of the charity donthateonhaiti.org benefits. This is their September goals to help the people of africa.
——-A few minutes ago, we launched our 4th annual September campaign at http://www.charitywater.org/september. This year, we’ve got a huge goal: bring clean water to the entire Bayaka people group of Central African Republic. I was just with these amazing people last month and they are truly a forgotten people in a forgotten country. The ultimate underdogs.
The Bayaka are some of the last hunter-gatherers in the world, and about 20,000 live in the Central African Republic. They are skilled hunters, and know the ways of the forest, but in recent years the logging industry has destroyed their ancient way of living along with the forest canopy. They’ve been forced into villages where they’re treated poorly. Partly because they’re short (about 4 feet tall), and partly because their expertise in the forest has no value in the villages. They live on the fringes now.
The Bayaka have an incredible story, but almost no access to clean water.
And so today begins our campaign to give every single one of them access to clean water. While we’re at it, we’ll keep going and reach 70,000 of their neighbors. It’ll take us $1.7 million and 1,700 September birthdays to get there. I absolutely need your support to make this happen.
